I'm Too Sexy for Autism.

It is hard to find someone who is not familiar with the catchy, foot stompin', butt shakin', '90s tune by Right Said Fred.  You know the one... where the megalomaniac lead singer is prancing about the video talking about how he's too sexy for this and that?

Well, the catwalk's got a new gig, and it is "shakin' its little tushy" for autism.

Last month, The Federal Hill Gazette reported on the fourth annual fundraiser, Catwalk to Campground Designer Fashion Show Dinner held by The Autism Project of RI, a local nonprofit whose "mission is to develop a comprehensive system of care and resources that meet the needs of children and adults with autism and their families including education, health, vocational, career, and social and community needs."

The proceeds of the event went "towards funding summer camp scholarships for local children with autism who demonstrate financial need.", and this year's event raised nearly $20,000.  From the sound of things, it was quite the happening party!

With so many stories in the media about autism and its negative impact on families, it's nice to see that there are indeed others who choose to report on the positive.

I look forward to participating in next year's event... after all, mama does like partying for a good cause!
